How It Works
A simple, predictable process that makes it easy to offer custom design to your retail customers.
Email or text your customer's sketch, reference photo, or description along with metal type, stone sizes, and finger size. That's all I need to get started.
Within 1–3 business days, you'll receive photorealistic renders and a 360° animation. Show them to your customer for approval. Revisions are quick and easy.
Once approved, I deliver production-ready .STL and .3DM files optimized for wax printing and casting. Send them straight to your caster or print in-house.
You handle the bench work you're great at. Your customer gets a stunning custom piece, and you've added a profitable service with zero CAD learning curve.
About
Fifty years in the jewelry industry. Thirty-two of them at the bench. Twenty-two behind the screen in Rhino and Matrix. And after a short retirement, I realized I wasn’t done yet.
I started my career the old-fashioned way — learning to fabricate by hand, working precious metals one piece at a time. Over three decades at the bench, I built a deep specialty in platinum fabrication, mastering the techniques and tolerances that make platinum one of the most demanding and rewarding metals to work with. That hands-on experience is what sets my CAD work apart — I’ve lived on the other side of the file, so I know what the bench needs.
Twenty-two years ago, I transitioned fully into CAD design and never looked back. Working in Rhino and Matrix, I found I could bring that same bench-level understanding to the digital side — building models that aren’t just beautiful on screen, but engineered to cast, set, and finish cleanly in the real world. That’s the difference between a designer who knows software and a designer who knows jewelry.
At the beginning of 2025, I retired and handed my business off to my daughter. I thought I’d enjoy the quiet. Turns out, I’m not built for it. After a year away, I’m back — not to rebuild a full-time operation, but to do what I love on my own terms. A few accounts, a few designs a week, and the satisfaction of turning a jeweler’s vision into something real.
To be clear: I am strictly a CAD designer. I don’t do bench work, I don’t do repairs, and I don’t sell to retail customers. Robert Hunter Designs exists to support bench professionals and independent jewelers — not to compete with them. My job is to deliver production-ready CAD files so you can do what you do best at the bench. No middlemen, no offshore revision cycles, no surprises. Just an experienced CAD partner who picks up the phone, understands the work, and delivers files that are ready for your caster.
